King Henry and me at Hever Castle, a long time ago….

I have to confess, I am an unwavering Tudor-phile, a true Tudor nerd, and I have been for as long as I can recall….. There, I said it……

Whenever I can, I visit Tudor sites with like minded friends, some of them Tudor historians, authors, and even actors who have brought members of King Henry’s court to life in film, or on the stage.

In Rome I discovered that Henry VIII’s love letters to Anne Boleyn were not on display. It is not known how they ended up in the Vatican, but it is well known that they are there, and I just couldn’t leave Rome without seeing them.

After significant effort, I became the first writer who in hundreds of years was given the privilege of having all 13 letters brought from the Vatican archives for my personal inspection. The thought of having held them in my hands and being given as much time as I needed to study every one, is a memory I will always cherish.

So, follow along. Between reviwing contemporary new releases, and books that are older, but well loved, I will share my fascination with this era with you.

My next book review will take a look at “The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn,” by Eric Ives.
