This one is a heartbreaker.

I am in complete awe of Armando Lucas Correa’s ability to make a reader care deeply about his characters from the very first pages. This is a work of fiction, but the circumstances are real, and the Sternberg’s story could have been anyone’s.

It is astonishing how quickly normalcy can unravel, and how warning signs of a devastation ahead can seem so ludicrous that they are easily dismissed.

When the unthinkable happens, Amanda Sternberg flees Germany with her daughters to what she believes will be safety in France, but on route she makes a choice that no mother should ever have to make. Who will survive against all odds? I won’t tell you….. there is so much more…….

This is a story of untimely death, lost identity, displacement, and yet, incredible fortitude and the bittersweet twinge of rememberance. History books never make war feel this real.

Buildings crumble and echos of the past are lost in the rubble, but stories endure. This is what remains of the church in Oradur-sur-Glane.

Stay tuned. I hear that there will be a third book in this series.

This book was published by Simon and Schuster Publishers and the author’s agent is Alexandra Machinist of ICM.
