In spite of Henry VIII’s efforts to erase Anne Boleyn from history, her legend lives on today, 500 years later. She was said to be elegant, spirited, educated, the keeper of many talents, the light of the reformation, an enchantress, a usurper, even a witch…. but above all else, she was was a human being, and innocent of the charges against her.

This book breaks my heart. It is the only one that clearly describes the mechanism of Anne Boleyn’s downfall, how astonishingly quick it happened, and how little it was based on. Anne Boleyn was executed seventeen days after her arrest on May 2nd, and the five men who were convicted with her, her brother included, died two days earlier.

As all of Claire’s work, this book is thoroughly researched, well organized, and beautifully written. Along with segments about each character involved, she clearly describes the events leading up to this tragedy and continues through to its aftermath, giving it an eerie clarity.

Queen Anne Boleyn

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for “The real truth about the Tudors,” as Claire says, and look up TheAnneBoleynFiles.com, Claire’s many books, and subscribe to “The Tudor Society!”
